Kent State student removes controversial art exhibit

A Kent State student installed an art exhibit featuring President Donald Trump's head on a stake and phrases "We only have to get lucky one" at the Center for the Visual Arts. Shortly after its installation, scaffolding was constructed in front of it, and then the student agreed to remove it.

University Housing addresses safety concerns following natural gas odor on campus

On Nov. 20, a FlashAlerts notified students and faculty that the Kent Campus Energy companies were conducting work on natural gas lines. The work conducted on the lines omitted an odor causing members of the Kent community to become concerned.

Ravenna police fatally shoot ax-wielding homeless man

43-year old Matthew James Fries approached Ravenna police with an ax and knife while officers were responding to call about a stabbing victim. Because Fries did not listen to officers' commands to drop his weapons, the officers discharged their guns, fatally shooting Fries.

Kent Police and U.S. Marshal identify homicide suspect

Following the murder of a 35-year old pregnant woman, Kent police named​ 44-year old  Dawan R. Wilson has a potential suspect releasing a photo of him and the car they believed he used to get to the scene of the crime.

Kent Roosevelt High School bomb threat suspect indicted on terrorist threat charges

On Oct. 26, 2023, then 18-year old Meier Gillespie threatened to "blow up" Kent Roosevelt High School in a social media post. Following Gillespie's threats a grand jury indicted him with charges of terroristic threats.
